Fall 2008 LLSS 315 Linguistically Diverse Students

This class was very different than any of my other ones.  Our instructor Francis kept us on our toes.  You never know what to expect with her. I had the opportunitiy in this class to work with some students from Apache Elementary School throughout the semester.  As a class we helped our students create their own family stories and a poem that is also about them.  It was a lot of fun.  One of the things that I loved about this experience and our instructor was her philosophy that whatever you ask your students to do, you as a teacher should do it too!  So, everyone in the class created our own poems and stories.  I love to write so this was a lot of fun for me.
I took these ideas and included it in my pre-students teaching. My 4th graders at Park Avenue all created with great pride their own "I Am From.." poems. They were so proud of them that they couldn't wait to get them typed up and show their parents.
This Linguistically Diverse class just like all of my other ones will greatly benefit me as a future teacher.
