Summer 2008 LLSS 443 Children's Literature

This was my most difficult class. I chose to take this course correspondence.  It entailed so much written work that it took the fun out of children's literature.  Children's literature is so incredibly valuable. I have learned that it can and should be used in any and every class.  A story can compliment any lesson. It will bring the lesson to life in ways that the textbook cannot. Books can help students see things that they couldn't otherwise experience. Students can live vicariously through different characters.  Stories teach children about the ways things used to be or can let them know that other people are going through the same things that they are experiencing.
I used to be completely clueless on the subject of children's literature. I didn't know what the big deal it was. I didn't realize that it covers so much and that it is such an important part of teaching. This class will be such an asset to my teaching. I will strive to use books in my classroom, regardless of what grade I teach.
