Spring 2008 EDUC 361 Math in EL

I really do not have much to say about this class.  It wasn't anything that I was expecting. We read a lot of articles on constructivism, which were very informative. We also learned about a few programs online to help teach math. There was a lot of focus on teaching math to kindergarteners. I apologize but I honestly didn't get much out of this class. I wish I could say how much it helped me and that I will use what I was taught.  Unfortunatley, besides 17 constructivism articles and a 5 page research paper on gender equity there was nothing else to take away from this class.
I will say that I learned a lot about gender inequity.  I never realized that it is a problem that teachers are more times than not resposible for it, but are usually unaware of their actions. For example, research has shown that teachers often give more attention to boys than girls. The reasons can vary as teachers are usually unware of their behavior.  There are many other inequities seen in the classroom. I will do my best to encourage females to like and become involved in subjects that are considered "boy subjects" like science. I will also make sure that I am giving all of my students the deserved attention that they need. And lastly, I will strive to make my classroom a place of equal opportunity and learning. A good teacher is aware of her actions and of the effects of her actions.
